Marching in Memphis
for King’s legacy
IFPTE joins other labor leaders at 50th anniversary
IFPTE leaders joined the Memphis commemoration on the 50th anniversary of Martin
Luther King Jr.’s assassination April 4, 1968. Participants included IFPTE SPEEA-Area
Vice Presidents Joel Funfar and Donna Lehane, and BJ Moore, SPEEA Midwest
director, along with IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Paul Shearon, staff, and representatives
from IFPTE Local 1937, IFPTE Local 194 and IFPTE Local 195. The commemorative events included a march and panel discussion in a celebration jointly sponsored by
AFSCME and the Church of God and Christ. King was in Memphis on behalf of striking
sanitation workers with AFSCME.
