New Wichita office
improves SPEEA visibility
WICHITA – After nearly two years of planning, including months of remodeling, SPEEA, IFPTE Local
2001 is preparing for an open house Oct. 20.
“This new office and meeting space, purchased by
SPEEA, shows our commitment to, and investment in, our members and the community,” said
Midwest Regional Vice President Keith Covert.
Making the transition to the new location after
renting office space in a strip mall has taken more
than a year and a half since the location was put
forward to the Executive Board.
“It was lengthy but very necessary to ensure we
did our due diligence in selecting the property,”
“Between what we were renting and the new
office, it’s a small difference in square feet,” he
added. “However, this will be a better fitting
space to what we’re doing.”
The office includes a large meeting room for
Council meetings, member training and activities.
The space includes ample parking and is on a
corner with the SPEEA sign clearly visible to
those passing by, which includes a large number
of employees going to and from work at Spirit.
“It’s a more visible symbol to the community
that SPEEA is here for Wichita,” Covert said.
SPEEA has rented office space for about two
decades, since it first began representing the
Wichita Engineering Unit in 1995. The Wichita
Technical and Professional Unit ( WTPU) orga-
nized in 2000.
The new location, added Midwest Council Chair
Mark Gayer, sends a message. “It’s one more
avenue for communication to our represented
employees – and management – that we are here.”
