WICHITA – ‘Step up for SPEEA’ brought together leaders and potential activists with the goal of developing future leaders. At the initial kick off Oct. 28, Wichita Council Reps spent the
day discussing how to engage new leaders through mentoring and skill
building, for example. Those ideas led to a second ‘Step up’ event Nov.
13 with the mentors and members.
The program is geared toward recruiting not just Council Reps or Area
Reps, but also committee members, bulletin board focals and participants
in SPEEA and community events.
Wichita members 'Step up for SPEEA'
More than 60 took part in ‘Step up for SPEEA,’ including Council
Reps who volunteered to mentor. More than 30 from the ‘Step up’ program registered for a SPEEA 101 class in Wichita next month, which
will also feature the first mentoring circle (discussing topics in a group
setting). At least 10 signed up for one-on-one mentoring with SPEEA
leaders and several signed up as Area Reps.
