Wichita CRs talk with CEO
WICHI TA - Midwest Council Reps recently met with Spirit AeroSystems CEO Tom Gentile to discuss workplace concerns and issues.
The Council Reps raised issues such as future
work, overtime pressure and problems with
retention due to employees leaving for higher
pay at other companies.
“The Council Reps and elected leaders had the
opportunity to ask about issues in the work-
place that could impact the bottom line,” said
BJ Moore, SPEEA Midwest director. “Our
Wichita activists appreciate the opportunity to
have an open dialogue to help improve working
Some of the ongoing issues that have been raised
repeatedly involve inconsistencies in the perfor-
mance management process, and inadequate
staffing that leads to significant overtime and
outsourcing that requires more work on the part
of direct employees.
Safety glasses fill need in Wichita
SPEEA members Robert Wikstrom, left, and David Farnham are wearing new SPEEA safety glasses. SPEEA provided a
limited number of the made-in-the-U.S. glasses to make it easier for members to comply with Spirit AeroSystem’s requirement
for personal protective equipment. Spirit initially told employees to provide their own safety glasses, which prompted SPEEA’s
decision to supply the glasses. Spirit reverted to providing glasses in factory tool cribs. The location requires safety glasses to
pick them up. The SPEEA glasses are available on a first-come, first-served basis to members only.
